Presenta en su composición hidróxido de calcio, elemento importante para inducir la formación de la dentina reparadora y utilizado como material intracanal en procedimientos endodóncicos. El hidróxido de calcio confiere al producto acción antibacteriana, privando los microorganismos residuales de su suplemento nutritivo previniendo la penetración del exsudado en el interior del sistema de conductos radiculares. Su pH 12,4, altamente alcalino, puede favorecer la muerte bacteriana. Curativos de hidróxido de calcio feitos a largo plazo tienen demostrado reversión de varias alteraciones periapicales. Este componente también posee excelente biocompatibilidad y estimula el tejido hospedero, favoreciendo la reparación tejidual por la activación enzimática tejidual, generando efecto mineralizador. Induce la formación de la dentina reparadora, permitiendo un aumento de la calcificación de la camada de dentina preexistente ofreciendo mejores condiciones de protección a la pulpa cuando sometida a lesiones.
